During the first year of activity (seven months 1999) the main partners (clients) of Riga Re were Baltic insurance companies, where share of Baltikums Insurance Group comprised 76% of total amount of underwritten risks. At an initial stage of development Riga Re became reinsurance manager and provider for Baltikums Insurance Group. The successful start of our company has ratified desire of the shareholders to develop business and to expand its geography. In 2000 the company had partnership relations with 50 insurance and reinsurance organizations from various regions of the Former USSR and CIS countries, Western and Eastern Europe. 57% of the business of Riga Re for this period was already outside of the Baltic States. For maintenance of efficiency and a close contacts with partners representative offices of Riga Re had been established: since January, 2000 in Kiev, since August, 2000 in St. Petersburg and since January, 2001 in Moscow. In 2001 Riga Re became a member of Russian Underwriters Club. Due to effective work of regional offices in 2001 the amount of the gross written premiums has increased by 1,87 times in comparison with the previous year and quantity of the reinsurance contracts has doubled. Loss ratio of the company's portfolio remained stable and within the last two years this index was approximately 11.5%.
